'Figures don't lie, but liars figure.'
-Mark Twain
I used to unconditionally believe everything as long as it was backed by some form of evidence or fact. I learned the hard way.
When I got a little bit more wiser I realized people have the capability to interpret their Bibles to what they want it to say.
Everybody has an opinion on the market. They're usually on TV, but more often than not it's the Uncle Mikes and the Buddy Bobs who love to give unsolicited 2-minute pep talks about the market.
And don't get me wrong, what they say always contains some form of truth. Problem is, its half-baked or toasted.
So what can we do about it? How can we have the best probability of landing in the realm of truth? The stakes are high, this is the biggest financial investment we will ever make in our life.
I have two things to share to you:
1. Do a little bit of research. You don't have to spend 20 hours (perhaps 2 or 3?), just enough so you can understand what is happening. So when you do contact us agents your BS detector will be in automatic pilot.
These are good ones to start with:
Nevada Small Business Development Center
Reno Home Blog
Chase Nation
2. Do not take Instinct and Intuition (your 'i's ) out of the picture. It's a very very special gift endowed to us humans. But lay a stable foundation of solid evidence (tip #1) where your two 'i's can better spring forth.
"I notice increasing reluctance on the part of
marketing executives to use judgment; they are coming to rely too much
on research, and they use it as a drunkard uses a lamp post for
support, rather than for illumination.
" - David Ogilvy
