Reno and Sparks home Buyers: Using research & instinct--the secret formula to a successful buy!

"Advertising people who ignore research are as dangerous as generals who ignore decodes of enemy signals. "

-David Ogilvy, Founder of Ogilvy and Mather

Facts, facts, facts, numbers numbers, numbers, boring boring and boring.

Let's face it, math is hardly anybody's favorite subject.

Once in a while people send me emails asking about other ways to be successful in the Reno real estate market--other than the path of research.

If you've been familiar with this blog you might think of me as this real estate geek, who reads and analyzes numbers all day long.  Well I admit, part of that is true.  But back when I was still studying, being a real estate number junkie rarely landed on the "what do you want to be when you grow up" question.

But after making my fair of mistakes and thousands of dollars later (and still learning), and through the help of a wise friend (thanks Dan!) and an amazing investment sage, I realized that real estate need not be a guessing game.  That in fact you can see what the future holds by learning from the past. This has been the cornerstone of the blog.

But it doesn't stop there.

"I notice increasing reluctance on the part of marketing executives to use judgment; they are coming to rely too much on research, and they use it as a drunkard uses a lamp post for support, rather than for illumination. "

                                                                 -David Ogilvy

That's right; let's use research for illumination, not as a lamp post.

About a year ago, I stopped giving specific buy or sell advices to clients and readers, unless I really knew their situation. I found out that even if the market is saying "don't buy", one size does not fit all--that's everybody has a different financial standing and needs.

That people can still make the right decision, my job was to "illuminate" the Reno-Sparks market to them.

I couldn't agree more Mr. Gallup:

"The common people of America display a quality of good common sense which is heartening to anyone who believes in the democratic process."
